The mission of the Foundation is to decrease limb loss within the diabetic population by delivering education to health care providers, medical staff, and the general public while addressing health care disparities, decreasing the cost burden, and improving outcomes within the diabetic patient population.

The prevalence of diabetes is increasing, within the United States and globally, at an alarming rate. Limb loss associated with this disease is concerning. In 2020, 26.9 million individuals were known to be diagnosed with diabetes in the United States, which is approximately 10% of the US population(1). Foot Infection leading to amputation is a common occurrence among this population due to the effect this disease has on multiple systems and functions. Diabetics have a 10-fold greater risk of hospitalization for soft tissue and bone infections of the foot,(2) and up to a 30-fold higher risk of undergoing a lower extremity amputation compared to individuals without diabetes(3,4 ). Limb loss is so prevalent within this disease process, every 20 seconds, somewhere in the world, a lower limb is amputated due to a diabetic foot infection(5). Standard of care is derived from practice guidelines, and exists to lead healthcare providers as they maneuver through the rigorous terrain of this epidemic. Nonetheless, significant healthcare disparities continue to exist within this patient population resulting in an unmet need for expedited accurate diagnosis, urgent proper treatment and management, as well as ongoing patient education and follow up.
